| Question: My boyfriend is pushing me to have sex but I’m afraid of getting pregnant. Where can I get birth control pills, because I want to go to college and not have a baby or get an abortion? |
| Grandma’s Answer: You have a lot of questions. Depending on your choices, there are different directions you can choose. I have many questions to ask you, too. How old is your boyfriend? If he is over eighteen, he could go to jail for having sex with you. If he is younger, has he had prior sexual experience? Have you? Hormones are raging within you at this point, but it is not necessarily wise to “give into” your carnal desires. This is why we have a brain too! In fact, it seems to be working pretty well for you, since you wrote to say you didn’t want pregnancy, a baby, or an abortion. The best thing you can do to achieve this with 100% accuracy is to abstain from sex until you have achieved your goals. You have the fortitude to say no. It is your choice. Keeping your self respect and making your own decisions are indicators of maturity. |

| Question: I am pregnant. Should I get an abortion? How do I decide? |
| Grandma’s Answer: Do you have one or both parents living with you? Do they know you are pregnant? If they don’t know, how do you think they are going to react? Is their reaction the reason you want an abortion? I am not in favor of abortions, and I am also not in favor of children raising children, pretending that they have the maturity for such a demanding job. Do you know who the father is? What has he got to say about this? It’s obvious that you didn’t put much thought into the potential outcome of your sexual behavior, because the consequence is not what you wanted. | Question: My social life takes up so much time I can’t study and my grades are starting to suffer. What do I do? |
| Grandma’s Answer: Your question is easy to answer! Study more and get your grades back up! Apparently you are bright, because you use to have good grades. My question for you is this: Why would you sacrifice your future for the sake of being temporarily more popular right now? You are only a year or two away from graduation. Are you planning on going to college? Have you thought about your career in the future? Many kids can socialize and get away with little study, but they are few and far between. Sit down and have a silent talk with yourself. Write down where you want to be in three years. Then write down the outcomes of continuing your social life as it is now, verses studying to achieve the level of success that is required of you to accomplish your dreams. Another important question you need to ask yourself is: Where will my friends be in three years? Are they wanting the same kind of life I want? Your choices are important here. Don’t underestimate your potential. |

| Question: I’m into marijuana every day. Is this really a problem like one of my friends is saying? I say it’s not hard drugs so, why not? |
| Grandma’s Answer: Marijuana leads to hard drugs. Many studies indicate this. A bigger question is, why do you feel like you need to do this? What in your life are you avoiding or running from? There are better choices that you can make. Who do you hang around with? Do they do drugs? Are you stuck in a bad situation? Where do you picture yourself when you turn eighteen? | Question: I am a senior in high school and my parent want me to go to college. I am not interested in more school. I want to relax for a while. Any suggestions? |
| Grandma’s Answer: Your reason for not wanting to go to college is pretty lame. At 17, the last thing you should need to do is relax. If you want to have some time to mature and decide what you really want to do with your life, then I suggest that you get in a work program or apprenticeship in a craft like plumbing, carpentry or the military. Anything you do should be meaningful and help you to gain skills and develop your life so that you are a contributing member to society. You have a purpose; don’t squander your potential. Write a list of what you think would make you happy and productive and take charge of your life. |
